In 2020, health care staff became frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19. We heard stories of the public’s gratitude from all around the world - we opened our doors during lockdown to applaud, cheer and even sing for them on their way to and from work. We shared social media posts, sewed scrubs and maybe our kids wrote a thank you card.
But what is it really like to work in a hospital during a global pandemic?
In a time of physical distancing, visitor restrictions and isolation, caring for people at the end of their lives has never been more important. Artists-in-Residence from The Creative Legacy Program have created a series of unique artworks, songs and sculptures in response to interviews with our palliative care staff about their resilience, frustration, passion and hope for the future. Their voices and their stories help us realise what it really takes to work and care in health.
The Creative Legacy Program is an art making and storytelling project from Liverpool Hospital and The GroundSwell project. Professional artists, songwriters and poets listen to stories from the Palliative Care Ward to create unique Legacy pieces for patients, families and staff. The program is proudly supported by Dry July.
