Kids Regular Programs

Liverpool City Library often refers to 'terms' for the duration of our ongoing programs. Terms for 2024 align with the NSW Eastern school terms, and are as follows:

Term One: Thursday 1 February - Friday 12 April
Term Two: Tuesday 30 April - Friday 5 July
Term Three: Tuesday 23 July - Friday 27 September
Term Four: Monday 14 October - Wednesday 18 December

Join us at Baby Rhymetime as together we wiggle and shake. This fun and welcoming session, aimed at babies aged 0-2 years and their caregivers, features songs, movement and reading to encourage language development and a love of reading.

These drop-in sessions are free and will run between school terms only.

• It is an opportunity to entertain, bond and have fun with your baby
• Develops language, especially listening, and the knowledge, skills and love of books needed to read later on
• Gives your child an opportunity to interact with children of similar ages and for caregivers to get to know others in their local area
• Provides ideas on how to foster literacy at home

Is your child too active for our Baby Rhymetime session, but not yet ready for our Pre-school Storytime?

This engaging, weekly program introduces children to early literacy, imagination, communication and social skills. We use scarves, ribbons, songs, action rhymes and musical instruments to keep them dancing and reading along.

Toddler Time is best suited for children aged 18 months – 3 years.
These drop-in sessions are free and run during school terms only.

Encourage a love of stories at Preschool Storytime. Explore a wide range of topics with your pre-schooler discovering engaging and well-written picture books.

This session uses songs, action rhymes, simple questions and games to keep your pre-schooler engaged and fosters early-literacy and social skills. At some locations, stay for craft at the end of the session.

Best suited for children aged 2-5 years.

Board Games @ Carnes Hill Library

Calling all board game enthusiasts!

Gather your friends or make new ones as you embark on epic quests, solve mysteries, and build empires together.

Beginners and experienced players are all welcome.

Join us for a fun and educational morning at the museum.

Each month children will learn about an object in our permanent collection and enjoy hands-on learning through music, craft, games and play.

Suitable for children aged 2 - 5 years and their parents/carers.

SUPPORTED PLAYGROUP

Supported Playgroups offer fun educational activities for children five years and under living in the Fairfield and Liverpool LGAs. Run by a multi-skilled team of early childhood teachers and family support workers, this free service promotes social interactions with other children, and connects families to the community and each other. All parents and family members are welcome to attend but will need to register their interest.

How to apply:

• Go to the Fairfield Council website and type ‘supported playgroups’ into the search bar

OR

• Complete the Supported Playgroups Family Registration Form

Priority is given to isolated families and families with other well-being concerns.

MULTICULTURAL PLAYGROUPS

The Multicultural Playgroups run in partnership with the Multicultural Resource Centre support migrant and refugee families with children aged 0-5 years. Children learn through play, mix with other children, develop new friendships, speak their own language and practice learning English.

Multicultural Playgroups run during school terms only.

Details on when Multicultural Playgroups will recommence will be available soon.

School’s out, but the weekend isn’t quite here yet. Get creative with our free drop-in session, alternating each week between craft and Lego.

Join us for after-school study sessions at our libraries, where you can study with friends in a welcoming environment.

Expert teachers are available during these sessions, from 4-5:30pm, to help you excel in Maths on Mondays, or enhance your English Writing skills on Wednesdays. General help is available on Thursdays.

Make the most of the session by taking advantage of our school collection and online databases. Alternatively, bring your homework, assignments and problems.

Suitable for students in Year 1 to Year 10. Students under 12 years old will need to be accompanied by a parent.

Code Club - Scratch @ Green Valley Library

Join us for an interactive and fun-filled term as we explore the user-friendly programming language, Scratch.

Resonances Gallery Museum Visit

Find and match social and cultural objects from Liverpool’s past to learn how people lived, worked and played in the local community. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the objects and the role of museums’ in preserving artefacts for the future, with time for a question-and-answer session, a story, and craft activities.

Teddy Bears Visit to Collingwood House

Bring your students and their Teddy Bears for a guided tour of Historic Collingwood House, learn about the history of the house and play some old-fashioned games, craft activities or listen to a story. >Students are welcome to bring their own food for a picnic in the grounds of Collingwood House.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Collingwood House: Desperately Seeking Staff

Mrs Keeper, the housekeeper of Collingwood House, has a problem. A series of unfortunate events, has left her with no staff, and the Master and Mistress are due home any day now. There are chores to be done and no one to do them. Travel back in time to the 1820's and see if you and your students are suitable to become full-time employees of Collingwood House.

Collingwood House: The Case of the Mixed Up Muddled Curator

Step back in time at Collingwood House. Built in 1810, the house is one of the oldest farmhouses in Australia and is decorated to reflect the time. Students take a tour of the house and reflect on its history. However, some mistakes have been made by our mixed-up, muddled-up curator and the students help to find objects that do not fit and correct the mistakes made by the mixed-up, muddled-up curator.

Collingwood House Project Based Learning Program

What is the significance of Collingwood House to Liverpool’s History? Who were the people that lived there? What industry took place on the land? What was life, like in the area before colonisation?  These are some of the questions students may answer through our Collingwood House project-based learning program.

Historic Liverpool Project Based Learning Program

What is the pre-colonial history of Liverpool? Who was Governor Macquarie and why is he important to the history Liverpool’s? What remains of the original convict designed and built buildings in Liverpool? These are just some of the questions your students may choose to answer through our Historic Liverpool project-based learning program.

Immigration Learning Project

What are some of the reasons why people leave their homes to live somewhere else? This project asks students to become reporters and find someone who has travelled to Australia to tell their emigration story. The program, suitable for students in stages 3 to 5 has a cross-curricular focus of History, Geography, English and Technology. It will encourage developing skills in research, the use of technology and provide essential presentation experience.

Resonances Now and Then: The Past in the Present

Objects can tell stories about people lived in the past. Use the museum’s permanent Resonance's gallery to consider what life was like in the past and compare it with current time. Students will have the chance to investigate and interact with objects from the Liverpool Regional Museums’ collection.
