Charlotte’s Dress: From creation to conservation of historic costume

Get a first-hand look inside Charlotte's dress and examine the intricate couture standard construction of this historic costume. Tess Evans, one of Australia’s leading textile conservators, will then discuss the approach to conserving a costume in this condition and preparing it for display.

Tess Evans has extensive experience in the field of textile and costume conservation and holds a postgraduate diploma in Conservation from the Textile Conservation Centre, University of London (1983). She has since worked as a freelance conservator and consultant in the U.K., Hong Kong, and Australia, undertaking a wide variety of projects including collection management, hands-on conservation, and exhibition installation, including the 70 iconic garments in the Costumes from the Golden Age of Hollywood Exhibition 2015 for Museum of Brisbane, Wedding dresses and Club to Catwalk for V&A London, and Marilyn for Bendigo Regional Gallery and can offer unique insights into creation, design, conservation, and display of costume.
