Requesting an item from another library

If you would like to borrow an item we don’t have at our library, we can request it for you from another library.

Contact your nearest branch library to ask them to place an interlibrary loan request. They will need your library card number and as much detail about what you would like to borrow: title, author, language, format (such as large print), and edition or season number are especially helpful. They will place the request for you.

Most public libraries from NSW do not charge for this service. If the only place we can borrow the book from is a university, special library, or some libraries in Western Australia and ACT, there is a cost involved, starting from:

  • $33.60 per physical item
  • $21.80 per partial copies of an item (typically due to copyright)

We will do our best to source the item from one of the public libraries that do not charge, and we will always confirm with you before we pass on any charges.

It may take several weeks. If there are any problems getting the item, a staff member will get in touch with you.

When the item is ready to be picked up at your nearest library, the library will let you know.

These interlibrary loans are for 3 weeks, and renewals depend on the library that owns the item. If you need the item for longer, we will do our best to extend it, but it may not be possible.
