Homeschool at Liverpool Regional Museum Immigration Learning Project

Thursday, 30 May 2024 - Thursday, 04 July 2024 | 10am - 12pm | Liverpool | Kids

What is Immigration?

What are some of the reasons why people leave their homes to live somewhere else?

This project asks students to become reporters and find someone who has travelled to Australia to tell their emigration story. The program, suitable for students in stages 3 to 5 has a cross-curricular focus of History, Geography, English and Technology. It will encourage developing skills in research, the use of technology and provide essential presentation experience.

Students will interview a member of the community who has emigrated to Australia, create questions, record and edit the interview as a video or podcast and present it to the group in the final session. The second part of the project requires students to research the country of origin and present a PowerPoint presentation to a panel and their peers.

Session 1 Thursday 30 May 10am - 12 pm at Liverpool Regional Museum.

An introductory session, outlining the project, key terms and moments in Australian migration, and a look at the museum's current exhibition that features migration stories.

Session 2 Thursday 6 June 10 am – 12pm at Yellamundie Liverpool City Library

Session 5 Thursday 4 July 10 am – 12pm at Yellamundie Liverpool City Library

The project will give you the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of immigration through the stories of the person you choose to interview.

The program runs with interactions* with museum/ library staff up to 4 standard visits and one drop-in session. Students work independently on their project during the time between the onsite visits.

This program can be adapted to suit school timetables, *visit/s can be planned with the supervising / organising teacher.
